With a struggling economy and soaring prices across the board, a growing number of travelers find themselves on the hunt for cost-saving strategies to accommodate their upcoming vacation plans.

Upgraded Points, a leading provider of travel insights, recently analyzed 75 of the most popular beach towns in the United States. As Travel Pulse notes, the purpose of this research was to determine the average nightly rates of hotels and vacation home rentals, with a focus on Airbnb, in order to determine which locations provide the most affordable and expensive oceanfront lodging options for the upcoming summer season.

With Montauk, Southampton, and East Hampton, New York ranking as the three most expensive beach towns when it comes to accommodations in 2023, the Hamptons represent the least budget-friendly places to go this summer for a beachfront vacation.

In Montauk, the average cost of a hotel room is $639 per night, compared to a vacation home’s average nightly rate of over $1,200. As a result, the typical weekly rate is a whopping $6,454. With average weekly rates of $6,391 and $6,178, respectively, Southampton and East Hampton aren’t far behind.

Among the priciest U.S. locations for a beachfront stay are Malibu, California ($6,150), and Folly Beach, South Carolina ($5,943).

Kiawah Island, South Carolina ($5,576), Lahaina, Hawaii ($4,946), Laguna Beach, California ($4,564), Key West, Florida ($4,547), and Solana Beach, California ($4,372) round out the top 10 most pricey places to spend a week at the beach.

Cedar Key, Florida, on the other hand, is the cheapest oceanfront destination with an average weekly rate of only $1,330, based on an average home rate of $189 per night and an average hotel rate of $191 per night.

Travelers can also find excellent rates in Ocean Shores, Washington ($1,995), and Ocean Springs, Mississippi ($1,491).

A week on the beach in Port Aransas, Texas, costs just $2,048, while in Galveston, Texas, it’s $2,058; in Ocean City, Maryland, it’s $2,097; in Pawleys Island, South Carolina, it’s $2,160; in San Juan Island, Washington, it’s $2,191; in Myrtle Beach, South Carolina, it’s $2,240; and in Bar Harbor, Maine, it’s $2,254.
